7 Queries about Digital marketing and social media ROI from Professionals

Knowing is not enough Bruce Lee

There were some very interesting queries I received over the past one month from Digital Power users about using Blogs, Social media and Digital marketing for real returns on investment, sales & business ROI and building a power brand online while adding real value to their consumers.

These questions mainly came from professionals from the following areas and industries:

  • Business owners & Entrepreneurs
  • Corporate Trainers & Leadership Coach
  • Corporate Marketing professionals, CMO and CFO across some very reputed corporations
  • Student of Marketing Management
  • Digital Marketing enthusiasts
  • Professional Bloggers
  • Social Media influencers ….

They had quite a few queries. (I am sharing a gist of my conversations with them, with all of you here so that in case any of you have the same query, this might be resourceful):

Most of their queries revolved around the following:

  1. How can I use social media or digital marketing to create a sustainable Revenue model and generate actual Sales ROI for my Business

  2. I want to become a Brand rather than just a Blogger while monetizing and partnering with powerful brands
  3. How do I use social media to ensure that my Brand monitoring is intact and safe
  4. How do I change or upgrade my Career and shift towards Digital marketing and social media
  5. How do I generate BUZZ around my products and services
  6. How do I ensure my team is delivering using the best and correct set of resources, new age media tools while implementing digital marketing in my organization.
  7. How do I keep generating interesting content for my Brand users and also understand which ANALYTICS and METRICS to measure from so many different sites? There is so much data and information overload, it is overwhelming as a Marketer.

Of course, I personally responded to each and every one of their queries, but the main point was, I noticed a radical shift in the “Quality of queries” in the past few months.

I could see a clear and serious shift of users enquiring “real-deal” questions today, as in, from queries which were merely about “which social networking platform should I use” few months ago to “how do I ensure, I deliver quality content for my brand users?” etc the seriousness among these users and their knowledge about this field and understanding about digital marketing and social media is definitely worth noticing.

Marketers and Organizations have for sure started taking the digital space seriously, as a powerful place to do business and build a power Brand.

As mentioned above, I shared my responses and feedback to each of their queries in detail, but would like to also share those responses (in brief) with all of you in case any of you too might have had these queries:

(Please note: These responses are just in brief, since many of their queries were about their industry and organization specifically, I cannot share those details here due to confidentiality)

  1. How can I use social media or digital marketing to create a sustainable Revenue model and generate actual Sales ROI for my Business
  • Create a systematic process and work flow while using these digital mediums in your organization. Create content or information which are not merely “content” but rather, value in the real sense of the term.
  • Build a rapport with your prospects in real-time.
  • Engage and connect.
  • LISTEN to them and LISTEN to what your Brand tells them on a daily basis too.
  • When you are able to show your customers that you care (using these digital marketing process and tools for eg. A caring tweet, a helpful blog post, an engaging facebook post or a really fun, creative and filled with life and zest video clip on instagram or vine, etc) would go a long way as a brand to help you build that trust and for prospects to become your customers. It is an ongoing journey, just the way, you would like your business to be.
  1. I want to become a Brand rather than just a Blogger while monetizing and partnering with powerful brands
  • Ensure that your content and the way you present yourself impacts the minds of users in a way that your professionalism and knowledge are genuinely trusted.
  • Be Sincere, express yourself for who you really are.
  • Don’t just talk about your work, rather, discuss and share moments from your real life (do draw a line here) and be yourself.
  • Let people see you for who you really are and they will TRUST you as someone who can help them, either as a brand or a marketing professional.
  • Remember, wherever you are, in today’s world, someone is always watching. So it is best to be the persona which even in real life is the real You. That coupled with your knowledge in your field, will ensure that you are building yourself into a brand, if that is what you want to be!
  1. How do I use social media to ensure that my Brand monitoring is intact and safe
  • There are plenty of tools, process to help you do that. But most importantly, have a clear social media calendar as a brand much in advance to help you to even go through the posts, links, pictures etc that you wish to share, so that to a great extent, you have tried to ensure that nothing goes wrong.
  • You can’t control what is being said about you, but with the right set of social media tools and process, you can at least be a part of that conversation prism.
  1. How do I change or upgrade my Career and shift towards Digital marketing and social media

Start learning from people who have built a reputation for being knowledgeable in this field. (Remember, here there are no experts, since the field is so rapidly evolving each day).

Read, study online as much as you can, invest in good books on digital marketing, social media etc in this field of work, download case studies and learn from them.

Remember, as I have shared earlier, this is a rapidly evolving discipline. So no one person is really an expert. Everyone is learning all the time. But ensure you learn from those in the industry who have practically worked with various industries, different cultures, countries, demographics and brands over a span of at least half a decade.

Invest in learning social media courses and attend workshops on digital marketing after having a look at the Trainer’s credentials and at the same time, understanding whether what is being covered will add value to your learning. Remember, certifications only help you gain an entry, but the only way to survive and flourish in any field is to really be able to learn and of course, put that learning into action.

As the quote shared above says, “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.”

The learning curve never ends.

  1. How do I generate BUZZ around my products and services in social media.
  • By really having a wonderful product and reaching the right set of audiences at the right time using proper medium online.
  • After this is done, it is essential to take feedback, measure and improvise.
  1. How do I ensure my team is delivering using the best and correct set of resources, new age media tools while implementing digital marketing in my organization.

Learn from the best, test by working hands-on across different tools, process, campaigns, invest your time and resource and read lots of case studies across various industries and keep measuring your GOALS using social media with the results your team is delivering.

  1. How do I keep generating interesting content for my Brand users and also understand which ANALYTICS and METRICS to measure from so many different sites? There is so much data and information overload, it is overwhelming as a Marketer.
  • We are living in a world that is so fast paced that even living in the moment is getting difficult. So ensure that your content is always fresh, sincere and valuable all the time.
  • The right set of marketing content, across right demographic of users at the right time using the proper digital medium always works towards ensuring that you keep generating interesting content for your brand users.
  • Whatever you do, take feedback, analyze reports, work on those every day and keep tracking your results from your campaigns.
  • Mainly, remember, Social media is not about hits, likes, follows etc. It was, is and will always be about People. People buy from People they TRUST. Humanize your Brand.
